Carlos Hurtado-Martínez, Luis Botella, Alejandro Sanfeliciano, Ernesto Aranda-Escolástico and Luis Ángel Saúl have published a study in the European Journal of Investigation in Health, Psychology and Education on pattern analysis in case formulations using fuzzy cognitive maps.

The approach combines personal meaning networks with the Fuzzy Cognitive Map of Human Problem Formation and Resolution (FCM-FRHP) reference model. Pattern identification considers both connections and the functional roles and meanings of the constructs involved.

Explicit rules retain a trace of the conditions satisfied by each detected configuration. A language model is used after detection to produce descriptions grounded in graph evidence.

The study provides a methodological demonstration and controlled tests with synthetic cases. The identified configurations can inform case-specific hypotheses; their correspondence with real clinical processes and their therapeutic usefulness require further investigation.
