On 27 May 2026, Alejandro Sanfeliciano Calvo defended his doctoral thesis at UNED: “Mathematical modelling of the construction of psychological change: a graph-theoretical approach to the study of personal meaning systems”, supervised by Luis Ángel Saúl Gutiérrez. The thesis received the grade Sobresaliente cum laude.
The research addresses a central question for GICUNED: how to represent relationships between personal meanings and study the consequences people anticipate when considering change. It brings together Personal Construct Psychology, graph theory and fuzzy cognitive maps.
The thesis integrates the Weighted Implication Grid (WimpGrid), mathematical indicators and computational developments, together with an initial psychometric evaluation. It is linked to the joint creation of GridFCM and PsychLab by Alejandro Sanfeliciano and Luis Ángel Saúl within the group’s research programme.
Congratulations, Alejandro! A new doctoral graduate at GICUNED and a contribution to understanding how psychological change is constructed.
