Raquel Ajates es Investigadora Post Doctoral – Research Fellow Daniel Carasso en el Departamento de Sociología II (Estructura Social) de la UNED, investigando sistemas y políticas de semillas, estudiando su sostenibilidad y los impactos sociales, políticos y medio ambientales de la digitalización de recursos fitogenéticos. Previamente, fue Investigadora Postdoctoral en la Universidad de Dundee (Reino Unido), donde trabajó en dos proyectos de ciencia ciudadana y sostenibilidad de la Comisión Europea dentro del programa Horizon 2020, llamados WeObserve y GROW Observatory, ambos con un fuerte elemento transdisciplinar. Raquel fue Teaching Fellow en el programa de innovación Interdisciplinary Food Systems Teaching and Learning (IFSTAL) del Centre for Food Policy en City University of London, en un consorcio con Oxford University, London Centre for Integrative Research on Agriculture and Health (Royal Veterinary College, School of Oriental and African Studies, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), University of Reading and University of Warwick. Raquel completó su doctorado y Master of Science in Food Policy en el Centre for Food Policy de City University of London, donde también se graduó en el Master in Academic Practice, y tiene un máster y licenciatura en Psicología del Trabajo y de las Organizaciones de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Sus intereses de investigación incluyen políticas alimentarias, mecanismos y barreras para la transformación del sistema alimentario, cooperativas, sistemas de semillas, agroecología, ciencia ciudadana y estrategias de reducción de cooptación de modelos regenerativos de producción, distribución y consumo de alimentos. Forma parte de diversos grupos de investigación: WeObserve’s Citizen Science & Open Science Community of Practice, European Consortium for Political Research Standing Group on Food Policy and Governance, Grupo de Estudios sobre Sociedad y Política, y el Comité Directivo de la Global Coalition of Open Source Seed Initiatives. Actualmente dirige el proyecto de investigación “El reto de la digitalización de semillas: sostenibilidad, big data y el movimiento social por sistemas de semillas de código abierto” financiado por la Fundación Daniel y Nina Carasso. Y participa en el proyecto la “Gobernanza para la promoción de una alimentación saludable y sostenible tras la COVID-19. La visión desde el ámbito científico” financiado por el Instituto Mixto de Investigación UNED-Instituto de Salud Carlos III. Raquel Ajates is a Post Doctoral Researcher – Research Fellow Daniel Carasso in the Department of Sociology II (Social Structure) at UNED, researching seed systems and policies, studying their sustainability, and the social, political and environmental impacts of the digitisation of plant genetic resources. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Dundee (UK), where she worked on two European Commission citizen science and sustainability projects within the Horizon 2020 programme, called WeObserve and GROW Observatory, both with a strong transdisciplinary element. Raquel was a Teaching Fellow in the Interdisciplinary Food Systems Teaching and Learning (IFSTAL) innovation programme at the Centre for Food Policy at City University of London, in a consortium with Oxford University, London Centre for Integrative Research on Agriculture and Health (Royal Veterinary College, School of Oriental and African Studies, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), University of Reading and University of Warwick. Raquel completed her PhD and MSc in Food Policy at the Centre for Food Policy at City University of London, where she also studied a Master in Academic Practice, and holds an MSc and BSc in Work and Organisational Psychology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Her research interests include food policy, mechanisms and barriers to food system transformation, cooperatives, seed systems, agroecology, citizen science and strategies that reduce the co-optation of regenerative models of food production, distribution and consumption. She is a member of several research groups: WeObserve’s Citizen Science & Open Science Community of Practice, European Consortium for Political Research Standing Group on Food Policy and Governance, Grupo de Estudios sobre Sociedad y Política, and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Coalition of Open Source Seed Initiatives. She is currently leading the research project «Seed wars go digital: sustainability, big data and the social movement for open source seed systems», funded by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation. She is also part of the project «Governance for the promotion of healthy and sustainable food after COVID-19. The scientic perspective» funded by the Instituto Mixto de Investigación UNED-Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
