The 12th International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN2026)(External link) will gather researchers, educators, and practitioners worldwide to advance the scientific, technical, and applied potential of immersive learning.
With the theme “From Plato’s Cave to Open Immersive Societies: Transforming Learning and Knowledge”, the conference will be held online & in virtual reality (June 14–15, 2026) and on-site in Athens at the National and Kapodistrian University (June 27–30, 2026).
OpenEU is proud to contribute to this global dialogue by launching this Special Track(External link): Pathways to Immersive Societies – AI-Empowered Learning Ecosystems for Digital Education. We invite you to share your research, case studies, demos, or policy reflections on how AI and immersive technologies can make learning more inclusive, engaging, and sustainable.
Topics include:
- Immersive learning through system, narrative, and agency
- Co-creative storytelling in hybrid ecosystems
- Capacity-building for digitally open universities
- Ethical & sustainable adoption of immersive learning
- AI as both a tool and an active participant in learning
- Cross-sector immersive education case studies

Submissions to this track (External link)will follow the standard iLRN submission and peer-review process. We welcome a wide range of contributions designed to maximise dialogue, the exchange of experiences and hands-on demonstration. Accepted contributions may include full and short research papers, practitioner case reports, posters, demonstrations and lightning talks, as well as participation in an interactive panel discussion on “Pathways to Immersive Digital Learning.”
