Reykjavík Pride has been an annual event in Reykjavík since 1999, with the first official Reykjavík Pride taking place in August 2000. Its history, however, goes back to 1993, when Icelandic gays and lesbiands first gathered in the city center of Reykjavík to demand freedom and human rights. This protest was repeated in 1994.

Our cozy little Pride, originally attended by some fifteen hundred onlookers, has blossomed into an almost week-long, colorful celebration that now attracts over 100,000 guests from all over the world. Reykjavík Pride is the largest annual event in Iceland and has sometimes been called “the world’s biggest small Pride!”
Reykjavík Pride is organized and held by the non-profit organization, Hinsegin dagar í Reykjavík – Reykjavík Pride.
Volunteer Position
As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on volunteers to help with the many tasks that need to be completed during Pride Week. We operate a Pride Centre where events are hosted throughout the week, as well as a Pride Shop where pride merchandise is sold. Volunteers are needed to help run events, assist in the shop, and support visitors at the Pride Centre.
On Saturday, August 8th, the Pride Parade takes place, and we need volunteers to help with setup and to assist with parade patrol. This is a great opportunity to be involved in the festivities that Reykjavík Pride has to offer.
Applicants must be over 20 years of age.
We offer lunch during Pride week.

Visa requirements
Volunteers coming from outside the Schengen area are responsible for arranging their own visa requirements. Information about residence permits for volunteers can be found here: https://island.is/en/permits-for-volunteers
All volunteers from outside the Schengen Area must be able to provide proof of their stay in Iceland. This includes flight tickets to and from Iceland, as well as an agreement with Reykjavík Pride covering the duration of the volunteering programme.
Please note that if you have been travelling within the Schengen Area prior to arriving in Iceland, you must ensure that you comply with the rule of not staying more than 90 days within a 180-day period. If a volunteer reaches the 90-day limit, they are required to apply for a residence permit for volunteering. More information can be found here: https://island.is/en/permits-for-volunteers
