About Madrid
Madrid, the capital of Spain, is a cosmopolitan city that combines the most modern infrastructures and the status as an economic, financial, administrative and service centre (in fact, the headquarters of institutions and companies like Telefonica, Repsol, the World Tourism Organization or the Organization of Ibero-American State (OEI) are located here), with a large cultural and artistic heritage, a legacy of centuries of exciting history.
Main landmarks in Madrid include, in the old town, the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Sabatini Gardens and the Almudena’s Cathedral, the Teatro Real (Royal theatre) and other tourist places like Puerta del Sol and Mayor Square. Out of the old town, it is located the Buen Retiro Park, ideal to walk around, the 19th-century National Library building containing some of Spain’s historical archives, a large number of national museums, and the Golden Triangle of Art, located along the Paseo del Prado (near Atocha Station) and comprising three art museums: Prado Museum, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofĂa, a museum of modern art, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, which completes the shortcomings of the other two museums.
