This covers, for example, fields such as:<\/p><ul><li>Big data for development (with applications in agriculture, medical tele-diagnosis, etc.)<\/li><li>Geographic information systems (with applications in public service planning, disaster prevention, emergency planning, disease monitoring, etc.)<\/li><li>Control systems (with applications in naturalizing intelligent cities through energy and traffic control, management of urban agriculture, etc.)<\/li><li>E-democracy and participatory democracy systems<\/li><li>Welfare-oriented service systems.<\/li><\/ul><p>Proposals that include a reflection on strengths and weaknesses are particularly welcome (ethical problems arising from use of the technology, possible acceptance problems in a specific context or culture, sustainability, gender digital divide, etc.), especially if the argumentation is based on impact measurement using quantifiable metrics (associated with compliance with the SDGs).<\/p><p>Reviews and analysis of the state of the art in relevant application areas are also welcome.<\/p><p><strong>Methods and tools for\u00a0SDG-oriented\u00a0AI\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>Proposals of methodological and technical tools at all levels of the AI research and development processes (analysis, design, implementation, validation, deployment and evaluation), focused on guaranteeing the properties of ethical AI and ensuring compliance with regulations, laws and policies, particularly those focusing on protecting the most vulnerable and marginalized, and those specific to the LMIC context.<\/p><p>Examples of these properties are: explicability, accountability, data governance, design for all, non-discrimination, respect for human autonomy, respect for privacy, robustness, safety, transparency and traceability, broad-spectrum impact forecast\/monitoring\/measurement, etc. Some properties that are particularly relevant in the case of LMICs are: adaptation to the available resources (hardware, software, connectivity, etc.), impact on the receiving communities, suitability and sustainability, etc.<\/p><p>Some examples of research areas arising in the study of the aforementioned tools are the following:<\/p><ul><li>Impact measurement by design<\/li><li>Equity-by-design<\/li><li>Ethics &amp; rule-of-law by design<\/li><li>Privacy-by-design<\/li><li>Safe, Trustworthy and Explainable AI (XAI)<\/li><li>Standardization\/harmonization<\/li><li>Low-cost AI (e.g. mobile lightweight applications, FOSS solutions)<\/li><li>The \u00abOpen AI\u00bb paradigm, where this refers not only to FOSS (Free \/ Open-Source Software), but also to applying FOSS principles to algorithms, scientific insights or other AI artifacts.<\/li><li>Culture-aware techniques<\/li><li>Community-centered technology development approaches<\/li><\/ul><h3>Publication<\/h3><p>AI4EQ selected papers will be published in a Special issue of the IEEE Technology and Society Magazine.<\/p><p>Publication in\u00a0International Journal of Interactive Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence and in Progress in Artificial Intelligence\u00a0<span>is also a possibility if the subject of the article is a good fit.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a04a025 elementor-section-stretched elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a04a025\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;stretch_section&quot;:&quot;section-stretched&quot;,&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-dd5780f\" data-id=\"dd5780f\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7649e41 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7649e41\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h1 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Submission guidelines<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b963562 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b963562\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.
