Barbara Perucka (Ph.D. in Art History and a degree in Italian Philology from the University of Poznan, Poland). After several research stays in different European cities exploring extensive texts and irresistible images of medieval manuscripts, her heart took her to Spain in 2012, where she has been working as a university lecturer (currently at the European University of Madrid) and as a tour guide in Madrid and surroundings.

Meeting point: PLAZA MAYOR FELIPE III STATUE

A compact walking route through the historic heart of Madrid begins in Plaza Mayor, the grand arcaded square that has hosted markets, celebrations and centuries of city life. From there, a short stroll leads to Plaza de la Villa, one of the oldest civic spaces, where medieval Madrid is still visible in its narrow streets and historic buildings. Continuing west, the walk reaches the Royal Palace, admired from the outside as an imposing Baroque landmark overlooking the city. Just opposite, Plaza de Oriente opens with its gardens and statues of Spanish monarchs, creating a calm transition toward the final stop: Plaza de España, a spacious modern square framed by iconic towers and the monument to Cervantes.
