Leire Salazar es Profesora Titular en el Departamento de Sociología II (Estructura Social) de la UNED. Es Licenciada en Sociología por la Universidad de Deusto, Máster en Ciencias Sociales Avanzadas en el Instituto Juan March, Doctora en Sociología por la Universidad de Oxford y Doctora Miembro del Instituto Juan March (hoy Instituto Carlos III – Juan March de Ciencias Sociales, IC3JM). En la UNED imparte docencia en los Grados en Sociología, Ciencia Política y de la Administración, y Antropología. Su investigación actual se centra en las desigualdades en la primera infancia y en la salud perinatal, cuestiones sobre las que es IP de un proyecto financiado por el Plan Nacional de I+D. Ha participado en numerosos proyectos competitivos nacionales y europeos. Entre sus publicaciones recientes destacan “Educational Expectations in the Great Recession: Has the Impact of Social Background Become Stronger?” (2019) en Socio-Economic Review, “Avoiding Selection Bias without Random Assignment? The Effect of Breastfeeding on Cognitive Outcomes in China” (2017) en Social Science & Medicine, y “Does Living in a Fatherless Household Compromise Educational Success? A Comparative Study of Cognitive and Non-Cognitive Skills” (2017) en European Journal of Population. Ha publicado también en medios como European Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology o Acta Sociologica.

Leire Salazar is an Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology II (Social Stratification) at UNED. She holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Deusto, an MA in Advanced Social Sciences from the Juan March Institute, a PhD (DPhil) in Sociology from the University of Oxford, and a Doctoral Membership from the Juan March Institute (currently, Carlos III – Juan March Institute). At UNED she teaches several courses in the following degrees: Sociology, Political Science, and Anthropology. Her current research focuses on social inequalities in early childhood, and on perinatal health. She leads a research project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, dealing with these topics. She has in addition participated in a number of national and European competitive research projects.
