I am full professor in Sociology at the UNED.

I have received my Ph.D. in sociology and social research from the University of Trento. I was then assistant professor at the faculty of sociology of the University of Bielefeld, Germany, from 1998 to 2000. I joined the UNED in 2000. Between 2007 and 2009 I was senior researcher on social stratification and inequality at the Juan March Institute, Madrid. Between 2010 and 2021 I have been Chair in Sociology at the European University Institute, while on special leave from the UNED. During these years (between 2013 and 2021) I have also been the elected Chair of the board of the European Consortium for Social Research. I am also a founding member and current co-director of Comparative Life Course and Inequality Research Centre at the EUI.

My current research interests lie in social stratification, inequality in educational opportunities and educational returns, family and labour market dynamics. My most recent publications deal with educational inequalities, returns to education in a comparative EU perspective and the consequences of parental separation for children’s educational outcomes.

My CV ad more details on my research and publication can be found on my personal webpage.
