Our name comes from the Greek word \u03bc\u1fc6\u03c4\u03b9\u03c2, meaning &#8216;argumentative cunning, wisdom, skill, craft&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group was founded in 2009 and includes professors and graduate students of the Department of Logic, History, and Philosophy of Science, as well as other associated academics. Luis Vega, Francisco \u00c1lvarez and Eduardo Bustos, now retired, were among the founding members and first directors of the group. We work in analytic philosophy and our main areas of specialisation are philosophy of science and philosophy of language. Some of our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uned.es\/metis\/members\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"11843\">members<\/a> are also active in logic, epistemology, animal cognition, and the philosophy of art. You can check out our current research projects <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uned.es\/metis\/about\/projects\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"12109\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work of METIS members has appeared in prestigious venues like <em>No\u00fbs<\/em>, <em>Journal of Philosophy<\/em>, <em>Philosophy and Phenomenological Research<\/em>, <em>British Journal for Philosophy of Science<\/em>, and <em>Philosophical Quarterly<\/em>. Our members are or have been editors of journals such as <em>European Journal for Philosophy of Science<\/em>, <em>History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences<\/em>, <em>British Journal of Aesthetics<\/em>, and <em>Theoria<\/em>. We also engage in outreach, having published in venues like <em>Aeon<\/em>, <em>New Scientist<\/em>, and <em>TIME<\/em>, and regularly appearing in international news outlets and podcasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of METIS teach in the Masters in Theoretical and Practical Philosophy at UNED. We also collaborate in the doctoral programme of the Philosophy Faculty, which has seen 30 PhD theses defended under our supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2009 we organise a recurring <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uned.es\/metis\/seminar\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blogs.uned.es\/metis\/seminar\/\">seminar<\/a> that has hosted talks by more than 400 speakers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Para una versi\u00f3n en espa\u00f1ol, haz clic aqu\u00ed.)
