El material será grabado y publicado en el repositorio institucional, CanalUNED y Youtube. The huge potential of the digital economy is underexploited in Europe, with 41% of enterprises being non-digital, and only 2% taking full advantage of digital opportunities. Although many EU entrepreneurs are already leveraging digital technologies to create successful businesses and significant economic impact, that number could be increased. This is especially true given that European SMEs grow two to three times faster and create new jobs when they embrace digital technologies. The digitization of manufacturing can transform the entire industry, offering prospects for the re-location of industry in Europe. The digital economy will reach EUR 3.2 trillion in the G-20 economies and already contributes up to 8% of GDP, powering growth and creating jobs. In addition, over 75% of the value added created by the Internet is in traditional industries, due to higher productivity gains. This Jean Monnet chair clearly focuses on a subject which increasingly affects EU companies (specially SMEs), institutions and citizens, in an area that needs deepen teaching in EU studies. In this context, this proposal for a Jean Monnet chair “Digital Economy in the EU” aims to: 1) To consolidate the subject “Digital Economy in the EU”. To spread knowledge of the challenges of the new digital economy in the EU context from the subject “Digital Economy in the EU” (in English) within the framework of the Official Master’s Degree in European Union Studies. In addition to materials, design and record masterclasses and audiovisual resources (in English), we will prepare a book about “Digital Economy in the EU: The role of the SMEs” during the chair´s timeframe. 2) To expand the teaching on “Digital Economy in the EU” to bachelor studies. In particular to the Business Administration & Management degree and to the Industrial Engineering degree, as key future professionals in the digital age. 3) To complete the teaching offer on “Digital Economy in the EU” with seminar/workshops for business students, seminar/workshop for engineering students, and a summer course/workshop on the subject. Additionally, different activities and discussions will be promoted with stakeholders: companies, institutions and policymakers. Complementary activities on research and mentoring of junior professors are also planned. Moreover, the JM Chair holder will participate in dissemination and information events at national and European level to give visibility to the topic and the chair´s initiatives. The blended teaching characteristics of the proposal (mainly online, and also including on campus activities) guarantees a high impact of the initiative, with an estimation of thousands of students involved. This initiative promotes and gives greater visibility to the European studies in UNED, the largest European campus, and also will promote and give greater visibility to these European studies outside the University. The material will be recorded and published in the subject repository, and CanalUNED and Youtube. El apoyo de la Comisión Europea para la producción de esta publicación no constituye una aprobación del contenido, el cual refleja únicamente las opiniones de los autores, y la Comisión no se hace responsable del uso que pueda hacerse de la información contenida en la misma. / The European Commission support for the production of this publication does not constitute an endorsement of the content, which reflects the views only of the authors, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.
