The Director of the UNESCO Chair in Distance Education, Ángeles Sánchez-Elvira Paniagua, presented the possibilities that Artificial Intelligence offers for the development of educational and research resources based on the dubbing of videos and the creation of multilingual presentations through text-to-speech AI tools, as well as its use in the generation of videos for learning or dissemination. Ángeles Sánchez-Elvira presented the experiences developed in 2024 with the dubbing of the conference organised by CUED in December 2023. Education 2050. On the other hand, Miguel Santamaría Lancho, a member of the CUED Management Team, presented the experience developed during the 2023-2024 academic year using a generative AI application to provide feedback to students. The main objective has been to validate the usefulness of AI in providing formative feedback, asking students to compare the feedback received through self-assessment, the assessment received from peers and that provided by the generative AI application for the same exercise.

During the conference, the Rectors’ meeting of the OpenEU University Alliance, recently approved by the European Commission in July 2024, took place in a hybrid format. The meeting was attended by the different teams of the universities that make up the alliance, 8 of the leading European open and distance universities and two universities in transition to the digital university, with the participation of EADTU. During the meeting, the first steps of the alliance, which will start its activities at the beginning of December 2024, were discussed. Coordinated by the UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya), the Consortium was also presented by its President, Angels Fitó, at the Congress.

The Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Multilingualism of the UNED, Laura Alba Juez, the Deputy Vice-Rector for Projects and International Relations, Fernando Val Garijo, and the Director of the CUED attended the meeting on behalf of the UNED.
