Como resultado de la colaboración entre la UNED y la empresa TECNATOM, en el marco de un proyecto europeo, se desarrolló hace unos años el MOOC “Introducing Safety Culture and its Application to the Nuclear Field”.
La primera edición de este curso se ofreció en forma de tres NOOCs independientes (nano MOOCs), dentro de la oferta formativa del proyecto ANNETTE (Advanced Networking for Nuclear Education and Training and Transfer of Expertise), coordinado por ENEN (European Nuclear Education Network) y financiado por Euratom, programa complementario de investigación y formación en el ámbito nuclear, en el contexto de los proyectos europeos Horizonte 2020.
Las ediciones posteriores se han impartido como una contribución en especie acordada entre TECNATOM y la UNED, con el objetivo de asegurar la sostenibilidad de esta iniciativa de formación especializada.
Desde julio de 2025, gracias al impulso conjunto de la UNED y TECNATOM (actualmente integrada en Westinghouse) los tres cursos se ofrecen en formato de un único MOOC en edición permanente dividido en tres bloques y disponible en UNED Abierta.
El curso introduce el concepto de cultura de seguridad, aplicado posteriormente al campo nuclear, con una parte dedicada al liderazgo para la seguridad. Está dirigido a un público amplio, sin necesidad de conocimientos previos, y acredita 1 crédito ECTS. En el caso de estudiantes de Ingeniería de la UNED, este crédito se reconoce como crédito de libre configuración.
El MOOC está dirigido por la profesora Mercedes Alonso, de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial, contando con la participación en su diseño metodológico y producción con Ángeles Sánchez-Elvira Paniagua, directora de la Cátedra UNESCO de Educación a Distancia, aportando su experiencia en innovación educativa y formación digital.

As a result of the collaboration between UNED and the company TECNATOM, and within the framework of a European project, the MOOC “Introducing Safety Culture and its Application to the Nuclear Field” was developed a few years ago.
The first edition of the course was delivered as three independent NOOCs (nano MOOCs), as part of the training offer of the ANNETTE project (Advanced Networking for Nuclear Education and Training and Transfer of Expertise), coordinated by ENEN (European Nuclear Education Network) and funded by Euratom, a complementary research and training programme in the nuclear field under the Horizon 2020 European framework.
Subsequent editions were offered as an in-kind contribution agreed between TECNATOM and UNED, with the goal of ensuring the sustainability of this specialized training initiative.
Since July 2025, thanks to the joint effort of UNED and TECNATOM (now part of Westinghouse), the three courses have been merged into a single MOOC, now available in a permanent edition divided into three modules, and hosted on the UNED Abierta platform.
The course introduces the concept of safety culture, which is then applied to the nuclear field, with a dedicated section on leadership for safety. It is aimed at a broad audience, requires no prior knowledge, and grants 1 ECTS credit. For UNED engineering students, this credit is recognized as an elective (free-choice) credit.
The MOOC is directed by Professor Mercedes Alonso from the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering, and includes the participation of Ángeles Sánchez-Elvira Paniagua, Director of the UNESCO Chair in Distance Education, who contributed to the methodological design and production of the course, bringing her expertise in educational innovation and digital learning.
