Avelino Corral Esteban works as a tenure track Associate Professor in the Department of English Studies at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. He holds a PhD in Linguistics from the UNED and his main areas of research interest cover the study of the grammar of the Native American languages spoken in the area of the Great Plains in the USA and Canada, (i.e. Lakota, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, Crow, and Arapaho, among others), the interaction between syntax, semantics and pragmatics across languages, linguistic typology, and the comparative analysis of the syntax of Romance, Germanic and Celtic languages. In the last few years he has collaborated in four national and one international research projects and, at present, he is leading the Honóxease Project (http://honoxease.webnode.cz/), whose aim is to foster the preservation and revitalization of the Cheyenne language.
